Transylvania

I have just arrived back from Transylvania. Here are some pictures of the house I stay in in the village. This is the "best "room and shows the traditional decorative bed, this is a particularly splendid one with lots of cross stitch embroidrey. The traditional pillows are piled high with the decorative part facing outwards. There are two mattress covers stuffed with straw, you can just about see the ends poking out , they are covered with two decorative covers.

Home spun vintage hemp hanks

I have just come across hanks of this......vintage home spun hemp.. hard to believe that from this (and of course hours of weaving work) came the beautiful cloth that was made into sacks!

I have just had a Just had a large delivery of lovely fabrics, here are some of them. Its hard to believe that these are all home made. from the growing of the hemp to the harvesting, retting, spinning and finally the weaving of the cloth
